Abstract

Nowadays wireless communication has been rapidly increasing and growing day by day. So,
communication systems with a high peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) and large bandwidth are
always in high demand. The power amplifier (PA) is the most important element of the RF
transmitter, as the PA's performance affects both the PA's efficiency and linearity. This paper
presents a survey of Doherty PA with various advanced architectures. Application areas
along with semiconductor technologies are discussed. The basic operating principle of
Doherty PA along with the different design techniques are aimed to enhance the performance
of Doherty PA to achieve both high efficiencies, and high bandwidth along with design
techniques to meet the requirement of fifth-generation (5G) applications presented. This work
will give directions to the research scholar in the field of high-frequency RF PA design.
