Abstract

The present investigation targets to the examination of groundwater quality for drinking in some rural parts of Nathusari Chopta area. A total of 30 representative groundwater samples have been taken from the selected locations and analyzed physico – chemically using standard methods. The hydro chemical facie of the ground water was described using Piper diagram. The majority of groundwater samples were found to be of Mg- HCO3 type. The water quality index (WQI) and pollution index of ground water (PIG) have been used to understand the quality of groundwater. On the basis of PIG, 53.35 % samples belong to very high level of pollution and on the basis of WQI, 46.67 % of the samples belong to poor and very poor category with respect to drinking. The analysis suggests the prior treatment of groundwater for drinking.
