A Criminological Study on Motor Vehicle Theft in India

Abstract

Theft is defined as an action of stealing someone’s property; it is a criminal act of pilfering. Individual greed for wrongful gain provokes them to steal someone’s property for their personal gain. Motor vehicle theft is one of the form of stealing, from studies it is evident that culprit steal motor vehicles from different region and sell them in other regions. Crime Statistics in Delhi capital in the year 2021showed that 36,177 motor vehicle theft cases were reported and 33,128 cases in 2020 respectively. This paper is aimed at studying such criminal acts, and finding reasons and effect of motor vehicle theft in India. This study gives data regarding motor vehicle thefts and process involving in criminal disposal of stolen vehicles from culprits.However committing theft is a criminal offence it does affect the financial condition and some of emotional aspects of the owner, this paper is also throws light on effect of motor vehicle theft on ownersand their family.
