Construction of Geodatabase for Educational Services in Baghdad City Using GIS Technology

Abstract

Background:The continued population growth in urban centres generates the need for expansion of urban space and services. The aim of this research is to create a geographic database for the educational services of Baghdad city as a case study due to its great importance being the capital, its essential location, and its large urban expansion, in order to produce a geographical map for the distribution of educational services, with essential characteristics using the geographical information system (GIS). Materials and Methods Vector data(shapefile), raster data (satellite image), and population statistical data within the study area were used in this research. All this data is imported into an empty geographical database that is created using ArcGIS software 10.4 for this purpose. Rresults: showed the possibility of obtaining accurate geographical maps of the study area and defining educational services through its administrative sub-divisions, formal and informal projects established on it, and its connection to the road network, in addition to statistical data of the population within the administrative regions. Conclusion: The above results showed the possibility of obtaining accurate geographical maps of the study area in the city of Baghdad for educational service projects, which were collected from multiple sources and were processed and stored in an interconnected geographical database that has the ability to determine the distribution of educational service projects sites through its administrative divisions, and linking it to the road network in addition to the statistical data of the population within the administrative regions.
