Abstract

Higher Education Institutions (HEI) are knowledge-based organizations actively engaged in knowledge creation and exchange. In ways, they contribute to the corpus of knowledge which is crucial for students’ self-directed learning. Knowledge is created, shared, and applied during the teaching and learning processes and activities. Faculty members and students develop and consume knowledge. However, knowledge created in academic institutions is not adequately gathered, preserved, and shared. In its place, various digital learning materials are constructed or acquired by faculty members and shared with students through various online applications. While these tools focus on managing learning activities and circulating digital educational resources, they do not support the management of knowledge in an institution. This study explored accomplished related works to support the development of EDUnong Knowledge Management Application System for Pangasinan State University, Philippines that integrates functionalities and services appropriate to the organization and sharing of the institution’s academic knowledge. The researchers used the incremental model as the KM system was designed, developed, and tested incrementally until all requirements have been satisfied. The developed system focuses on and intends to enhance the creation, storage, and sharing of the institution’s academic knowledge that may be useful in decision-making activities to promote and strengthen the knowledge creation and sharing culture in the institution. An evaluation of the acceptability of the developed system was conducted among users to put forward its adoption and implementation to the institution.
