Abstract

Wireless sensor networks encompass a diverse range of applications, making them a significant area of research. One of the primary challenges faced in this domain is the limited battery resources of sensor nodes. Addressing this issue is crucial for extending the overall network lifetime. The sleep scheduling method, also known as duty cycling, emerges as an effective strategy by alternating between active and sleep modes for specific nodes. While this approach efficiently conserves energy, the occurrence of node failures remains a critical concern. To mitigate this challenge, this paper introduces the Failure Recovery for Node in Sleep Scheduling (FRNSS) algorithm. The FRNSS algorithm aims to enhance sensing capabilities, maximize network lifetime, and achieve energy efficiency. Through comprehensive evaluations, it is demonstrated that the proposed FRNSS algorithm outperforms existing methods in terms of sensing coverage, energy consumption, and the reduction of control messages, thereby offering a promising solution for robust and efficient wireless sensor networks.
