Abstract
This paper explores the linguistic principles and computational methods used in computational linguistics for literary translation. We discuss the importance of descriptive and contrastive linguistics, pragmatics and discourse analysis, stylistics, and text analysis in understanding the source text and generating high-quality target translations. We also review key computational methods, including machine translation, natural language processing, text alignment and analysis, automatic text evaluation, and computer-assisted translation. We conclude by highlighting the applications of these methods in literary translation, including human-assisted machine translation, translation quality assessment, corpus analysis, style transfer, and ethical considerations.
Computational linguistics offers a range of tools and methods that can assist human translators in the complex and challenging task of literary translation.
