Abstract

Purpose: The present study compares the effects of aromatherapy with lavender and the placebo group on angioplasty-induced chest pain in patients of the Traditional Medicine Health Center of Rahe Sabze Salamat. Methods: This double-blind study was conducted on 79 heart patients undergoing angioplasty surgery at the Traditional Medicine Health Center of Rahe Sabze Salamat. Subjects were placed in 2 groups including aromatherapy with lavender and placebo groups. Subjects completed a visual analog scale (VAS) in the stages before, after, and after 30 minutes. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS-26 software. Results: The results revealed no significant difference between the lavender and placebo groups regarding pain scores in the before stage (P>0.05). The obtained scores were statistically significant in the stages after and after 30 minutes and aromatherapy with lavender could reduce the angioplasty-induced chest pain scores (P<0.05). Conclusion: Aromatherapy with lavender can be effective in reducing chest pain scores caused by angioplasty.
