Abstract

Women’s empowerment is a multi-dimensional process which should enable women to realize their full identity and powers in all spheres of life. Women empowerment means to let women live their own life in a way they think appropriate on the basis of their conditions, family circumstances, qualities and capabilities of which they themselves are the best judge.SHG has been playing a vital role among the unemployed youths in the Nalbari District for self-employment .Self-help-Group which is also known as thrift and credit group is constituted mainly for economic and social development of the rural poor in general and particularly for women. A self-help- groups has been defined as a small and informal association of poor having preferably similar socio-economic background and who have come together to realize some common goals based on the principle of SHGs and collective responsibility. Micro credit programs are implemented Through SHGs. All over the District many women members in self-help-group are covering and most of women are benefited by the self-help- group. The present study is to high light the contribution of self-help-group in rural economy especially in the Nalbari District for self-employment and make suggestions for improving women.For the study about empowerment, selected five villages as a sample, in the Nalbari District.
