Synthesis and Biological Studies of Some Pyrrolo-Β-Carbolines

Abstract

In an enduring work to produce β-carbolines with good antimicrobial property, a convenient
technique with good yield via Pictet-Spengler (P-S) condensation has been developed and
twelve 1,1-disubstituted pyrrolo-β-carbolines have been synthesized. Characterization of the
synthesized compounds were done by IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectroscopic methods.
Antimicrobial activities of compounds were studied by disc diffusion method. Antimicrobial
potential of all the newly synthesized compounds were tested against two fungi, two Gram
positive and two Gram negative bacterial strains.
