Abstract

In the comparison of Ajanta and Renaissance murals both are completely different in time
period, technique, styles, subjects matter as well as their aesthetics also. No doubt both art
schools have influenced eastern and western art, using different materials, showing the
emotions with the help of different lines, forms and different tonal values. Both art schools
have their own philosophical views to explain their own iconic style to the world. Compared
with Renaissance Murals, Ajanta Murals showing the internal emotions with the help of
present material are forever achievements of Indian art style; No one can disregard this fact. In
the portraits of Indian painting artists were focused to capture the inner reality that was the
essence of the person rather than the exactness of his appearance. Renaissance art of the
enlightenment did not arise spontaneously, but was the result of a long tradition and the labor of
artists conscious of intellectual power. According to the Italian poet Petrarch, the new age is the
Enlightenment revival of Ancient classics. Artists and scholars try to reconcile ancient thought
to Christian thought. Renaissance art was characterized by its own aesthetic values which
focused on showing the reality of an object. So we can say western art is more realistic in form
with deep tonal values but less religious in natural emotions than Ajanta Murals.
