A Review of Literature in Understanding the Green Initiatives of Indian Banking towards Sustainable Development

Resumen
Today’s business is all about being green. Banks are also switching to more environmentally
friendly practices viz. less paper use, less electrical use, solar power, energy efficient
operation. Compared with many other sectors of the economy banks do not incur the same
burden of energy, water and paper use but they play an intermediary role in the economy;
because of this the possibility for banks to contribute to sustainable development is
potentially profound. Banking sector is one of the major sources of financing investment for
commercial projects. They can play a crucial role in promoting economic development of a
country through productive investments that is environmentally sustainable and socially
responsible. Thus, green banking and green financing are the need of today’s banking
practices.
