A Critique on Distrust Relation between Police and Public: Scope of Community Policing to Bridge This Gap in India

Aims and Objectives: The aim of the research is to study the distrust gap between police and public in India and understand the scope of Community Policing to bridge this gap. Materials and Method: The sample for this study consisted of respondents of different age groups, educational qualification, occupation. The total sample consisted of 207 responses. The information was collected by circulating the pre-tested structured google form questionnaire containing questions on current policing and concept of community policing . Outcome: Correlating the overall responses in terms of majority for particular questions shows us the phenomenon we are inclined to study. We can identify that the majority of respondents from different age groups felt there is a distrust gap between police and public in India and many respondents said that public confidence on police can be increased only if police treat  everyone with dignity and also it was found majority of people from different educational qualification says that the distrust gap between police and public in india can be bridged through implementing nationwide community policing.
